8 Quick Ways to Maximize Getting Back Your Extra Hour

This year we’ll be “falling back” one hour on November 1 as we transition away from Daylight Savings Time. The change in clocks is also a great time to take care of some other chores that occur every six months or so. They can help you and your family stay safe in your home.
Check smoke alarm/carbon monoxide alarm batteries
It’s so important that these are working! If it’s been a while, go ahead and replace the batteries. Detectors like this are not a great place to economize by trying to drain the batteries before replacing.
Flip your mattress and wash your pillows
You can extend the lifespan of your mattress (thereby saving some $$!) by flipping it when you change your clocks. If you have a pillowtop type, just rotate it so it can wear more evenly.
Similarly, toss your pillows in the washing machine. Oils, mites and dead skin tend to accumulate over time so give them a good wash whenever it’s time to fall back.
Check filters
You’ve probably got more filters in your home than you think, and this is a great opportunity to check them all. Look at your heating/air conditioning units, the water filter in your refrigerator, and the HEPA filter in your vacuum and/or air cleaner.
In the laundry room, vacuum vents and ducts on your dryer
Using the crevice attachment, vacuum out your vent pipes, the outside ducts and the space behind your dryer as well. If you let the lint and dust build up behind your dryer, it’s easy for a fire to start.
In the kitchen, clean your oven and refrigerator coils
Self-cleaning ovens for the win! Or scrub if you must, but either way your oven will be in good shape for the holiday season.
You can save money by extending the life of your refrigerator, too. Vacuum out the coils to make sure it’s staying efficient.
Toss expired medicine and food
You can declutter at the same time as you improve the safety in your kitchen and medicine cabinet. Make sure what remains is healthy and safe.
Do an ergonomics assessment on your home office
We’ve got some tips for you if you’re not sure your desk set-up is protecting your health. Remember that you need to stand up and get moving periodically too if you’re normally sitting at your desk to keep your back and the rest of your body healthy.
Check your kits
During the year, you may have found that you’ve depleted some of the items in your emergency or go kits. Make sure the flashlight batteries are still working (again, this is not the place to economize!) Also check your stash of bandages, water, and whatever else you keep in your kits so they’re ready to go if you need them.

I set up an area on my back porch for bleaching and dyeing shirts. Unfortunately, the tables I got didn't have adjustable heights. My back was constantly aching from bending over a table for prolonged periods. I ordered these after seeing all the reviews on Amazon. What a lifesaver! She did not charge me for the additional expense of the larger size. She only charged me $15 for shipping. She told me that I didn’t need to return the original set but to gift them to someone who could use them. She was very professional and very kind. I highly recommend this “Made in America” company!
The NuChair design makes sense, so I bought one, and my staff love it! It does offload the low back when sitting and maintains tall strong sitting posture while sitting. In 40 years of practice I have never seen a chair that can deliver good ergonomics and postural support. The NuChair is the NuWay to get it done. Bravo.
These are a life-saver. I am going to get them for all of my work tables. No more hunching over! And, I can stand and work if I want to. We know that sitting is really bad for us. This was a VERY worthwhile purchase.
I am a DJ and I get tired of bending over all the time on a normal table. This thing did the trick! It puts everything at a much easier level so I can see it and reach for it so much easier.
Wow! These were the perfect solution to use at our food booth during a big event. Instead of purchasing another stainless steel prep table, we used these to elevate our normal 8′ tables and they were a lifesaver! Or should I say back-saver?
After a month, it’s really hard to complain about much regarding the chair. My shoulders, neck, and lower back all feel the difference, and as a 25 year tattooist, I feel the effects of work on my body. I train, stretch, and eat well, but also have a massive neck injury that has threatened to take me from my career, and it feels like this chair adds some years back!
My only suggestions would be for a more breathable, simple to clean material. Wearing jeans in this chair can get fairly sweaty, but I’m working around that.
Additionally, the other thought I had was to offer a shock height option for those of us that are tall. I suggested it already to the staff, and they provided me full specs on the current shock so I would be able to find a larger one utilizing the same width dimensions.
