It’s so easy to get into a routine, but if you’re missing a step or two, your routine might trip you up when you least need it to. October 30 is National Checklist Day – make sure you’re covering all the bases.
Pilots use checklists to make sure that they’re safe for flying. No matter where you’re working, you can use a checklist to make sure that you and the people around you are safe.
Depending on your specific industry, you probably have additional safety steps to add into your checklist. Here we’ve corralled some very common ones, including a few that are often overlooked. Particularly when you’re working from home.
Emergency preparedness
Can you easily get to the exit in event of a fire or other emergency?
Do you know where to gather for headcounts?
Do you have a go-bag for whatever disasters are common in your region?
Do you have flashlights with extra batteries close at hand?
Prevent slips, trips, and falls
Is the lighting adequate?
Remove anything that’s in the space where you and/or colleagues might walk through.
Clean up and dry any liquid spills on the floor.
Either clear away cords running across the floor where people travel, or tape them down so that they’re visible but not in the way.
Hold the handrail when you’re going down the stairs.
Ergonomics
Make sure everything you need regularly is within easy reach so you’re not straining to get to them.
Stand or sit so that your spine is neutral, shoulders are down, elbows are bent at 90 degrees and wrists are straight.
When sitting, make sure feet touch the floor when knees are bent 90 degrees, and get a footstool if you need it.
At the computer
Sitting all day is bad for you, so set a timer if you need a reminder to get up and move around.
Standing periodically helps you avoid sitting, and we can help you create a sit-stand desk from your existing folding table.
While standing, make sure that you’re still ergonomic.
Your eyes should line up with the top of the computer screen, or have it slightly below eye level.
Periodically look away from the screen to protect your eyes. Look at something farther away. Out the window is even better, especially if you have a nature view.
Use a filter for glare if necessary.

I set up an area on my back porch for bleaching and dyeing shirts. Unfortunately, the tables I got didn't have adjustable heights. My back was constantly aching from bending over a table for prolonged periods. I ordered these after seeing all the reviews on Amazon. What a lifesaver! I ordered the wrong size from Amazon. When I tried to return them, Amazon directed me to the Lift Your Table company. I spoke with Bethany and she helped me figure out what size I need. She did not charge me for the additional expense of the larger size. She only charged me $15 for shipping. She told me that I didn’t need to return the original set but to gift them to someone who could use them. She was very professional and very kind. I highly recommend this “Made in America” company!
The NuChair design makes sense, so I bought one, and my staff love it! It does offload the low back when sitting and maintains tall strong sitting posture while sitting. In 40 years of practice I have never seen a chair that can deliver good ergonomics and postural support. The NuChair is the NuWay to get it done. Bravo.
These are a life-saver. I am going to get them for all of my work tables. No more hunching over! And, I can stand and work if I want to. We know that sitting is really bad for us. This was a VERY worthwhile purchase.
I am a DJ and I get tired of bending over all the time on a normal table. This thing did the trick! It puts everything at a much easier level so I can see it and reach for it so much easier.
Wow! These were the perfect solution to use at our food booth during a big event. Instead of purchasing another stainless steel prep table, we used these to elevate our normal 8′ tables and they were a lifesaver! Or should I say back-saver?
After a month, it’s really hard to complain about much regarding the chair. My shoulders, neck, and lower back all feel the difference, and as a 25 year tattooist, I feel the effects of work on my body. I train, stretch, and eat well, but also have a massive neck injury that has threatened to take me from my career, and it feels like this chair adds some years back!
My only suggestions would be for a more breathable, simple to clean material. Wearing jeans in this chair can get fairly sweaty, but I’m working around that.
Additionally, the other thought I had was to offer a shock height option for those of us that are tall. I suggested it already to the staff, and they provided me full specs on the current shock so I would be able to find a larger one utilizing the same width dimensions.
